Operētājsistēmas DOS versijas līdz 3.2 nodrošina darbu ar COM1 un COM2 pieslēgvietām, bet versija 3.3 - arī ar COM3 un COM4. Operētājsistēma OS/2 dod iespēju izmantot līdz astoņām COM pieslēgvietām
